The effect of eight-week of aerobic training and curcumin supplementation on Bnip3 and Parkin gene expression in cardiomyocytes of male mice in a myocardial infarction model

Abstract
Background and Aim: Impaired mitophagy or clearance of damaged mitochondria plays an important role in the progression of cardiac injury after stroke. Given the importance of Bnip3 and Parkin genes in this process, the aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of eight weeks of aerobic exercise and curcumin supplementation on Bnip3 and Parkin gene expression in cardiomyocytes of male rats in a myocardial infarction model. Materials and Methods: In the present experimental study, 32 male rats were randomly divided into four groups: aerobic exercise, supplement, control, and exercise supplement after induction of myocardial infarction by injection of isoproterenol (100 mg/kg body weight/day). Aerobic exercise was performed for eight weeks in the form of moderate-intensity treadmill running, and curcumin was administered daily by gavage at a dose of 15 mg/kg body weight. At the end of the intervention, mitochondrial Bnip3 and Parkin gene expression was obtained using Real-time PCR.Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Tukey post hoc at a significance level of P0.05.
